So, I heard from Odyssey yesterday. I got a letter from them. And I'd heard from Alpha on Wednesday.
So here's the news.
Alpha: I'm wait listed. But. I'm first on the wait list. My mother says it's sounlikely that everyone who got accepted is going to be able to go. And all I need is for one person not to go, and I'm in.
But I still feel kinda bad. Like, had I on;y done a little bit batter, I would have gotten in.
Meh. Still. It's pretty good news.
Odyssey: I didn't get in.
On the other hand, I got the nicest rejection letter ever. It was personalized, and gave me comments on the story I submitted to them. I have to say, if you have to get rejected, that letter was the best possible way to do it. It was very complimentary too.
Though, I have to say, I was happier with the nice rejection, that I was with being number 1 on the wait list. Funny, huh?
Odyssey also welcoms me to apply next year with another year of writing experience behind me. So that's what I'll do! :D
Overall: I guess I'm happy with how this turned out. If I go to Alpha, I'll meet Tamora Pierce, and get to work with her a bit. I'll also get to go to Confluence, which is like a SF/F con I guess. And I get to meet Michail, who went to Odyssey last year. Been talking to him a bit about it. He went to Alpha the year before he went to Odyssey as well. (And he's in the process of writing what's going to be a very good book.) The only thing that I really regret, is that Odyssey's writer-in-residence is George R.R. Martin. And I'm a huge fan of his. It would be really awesome to get to work with him.
Oh well. There's always next year, right?

on 2004-05-01 04:22 pm (UTC)And thank you. I'm pretty much happy with this. I'll apply to Odyssey when I've another year behind me, and more experience. So, I think this'll turn out well.
Thank you for making me feel better, now you feel better too! And now, I have to go take allergy meds...
