In which Sky is inordinately pleased.

I'm so utterly pleased with myself.

Not sure if it's the new edition or if I'm just getting smarter (read: actually reading the instructions) or maybe both, but I just made a character for a D&D campaign and I did it mostly all by myself. (Those of you who've played campaigns with me know that I tend to fill in the character's name, race and class, and then hand the sheets to the DM to fill in all the numbers, rofl.)

Yay, D&D! I'll admit that I still need help filling out numbers, and I've been playing D&D for ... geez, six years and five (six if you count my henchman) characters. Then again, I have no head for numbers, so I can never get my THACO right.

But I'm rambling. What kind of character are you playing?

The new edition makes things much easier for those of us who see a number and want to cry. Srsly. I've been playing for several years, and I ALWAYS had trouble with numbers and rolling dice and all that junk, but it was made SO MUCH EASIER in the new edition.

I'm playing an eladrin swordmage. XD

I usually play 2nd edition, although I did 3rd for a short time, but I can't remember if that was any easier or harder. Probably harder, because I was so used to 2nd edition. XD

Wow, yeah, you're doing a completely different version- I've never heard of an eladrin swordmage. XD I'm just playing a human cleric.

Oh man, take a look at the new edition. They made everything better.

Eladrin are basically just high elves, and a swordmage is someone who hits things with a sword and does magic. XD

What edition are they up to now, anyway? 4th?

Ohhh, sounds fun! I mean, sword AND magic? How cool! My previous character was a grey elf, and I loved that character. I was so sad when I graduated and that D&D group broke up!

Yep, 4E.

Ooooh, yeah. I get to do tons of damage and make things spark. XD Technically it's in the new Forgotten Realms setting, but you can use it in a regular setting as well.

Also, in the new edition, they condensed all the different types of elves. They really made a lot of changes, but I can't think of a single change that I don't like (that they then haven't been like, "But we're fixing that too! See?" And made me go, "Ok, yeah, I don't have a problem with that now.")

If you end up getting into the new edition, you should make sure to keep up with their online content releases. Because they release pdfs with new things in them that aren't in the books. It's pretty intense.

(Oh man, I sound like my boyfriend... All this babbling about 4E is usually his job...)
