I finished Twilight.

No, my opinion on them hasn't changed. Yes, I'm going to read the rest of them. *sigh* I suppose, even if they aren't the best books, they are still affording me amusement. What more could I ask for, really.

Actually, it's not the plot that sucks. I think it's the execution. I think.

I'll admit, as much as I hate the books, I'm kind of pulled towards seeing the movie, the allure of vampires on screen is too strong :-p.

I'm totally going to see it. Possibly in the hopes that the movie will be better than the book.

From the trailer I think the movie looks awful. But I want to see it just for Robert Pattinson. Yum.

I am actually utterly confused whether you like them and are ashamed of it, or whether you hate them but somehow wound up with a full set and are reading them anyways.

(Either way, it's ok.)

Oh no, my boyfriend bought the first one (he was all up on his high horse, too) and then got sidetracked when he was reading it, and I had nothing to read, so I picked it up. And... I'm just slightly OCD about starting a series and then finishing them, so... yeah.

That said, his argument for why I should read them was compelling.

::curious::

Convince me to read the rest :-p

Oh, it came down to, "She has something you want." Basically, she's doing really fucking well with those crappy books, so reading them to see what she's doing and all that isn't entirely a waste of time. Study her, kinda.

Just... wait until you get to the last book. Sparkling vampires are the least of your problems.

I'm sitting here giggling just THINKING about this train wreck of a series...

Although I fear for Stephenie Meyer, if she really is that clumsy IRL. >)

And I'm giggling again remembering the parody that I read of book two that mentions suicide by public sparkling (which is not a spoiler because it can't possibly make any sense out of context). XD

Oh man. NO ONE can be THAT clumsy, can they? o_O

I am so waiting for "suicide by public sparkling" now. XDDD

I read the review on the newest book. Apparently there is a scene that's comparable to "Rosemary's Baby", blood, guts and gore.

Yep, heard that one too. Not really looking forward to it.

"What more could I ask for, really."

Decent literature? Well written prose? A plot that doesn't involve a vampire eating part of the birthing process?

I am, unfortunately, not. I got a precis of the new book from a friend who writes childrens lit, her review, needless to say, was not kind.

Well..... it's certainly "decent" literature. I definitely could ask for a plot that doesn't involve eating baby bits, though... *shudders*

What more could you ask for? A sweet-ass recommendation from a vampire lover: The Morganville Vampire series by Rachel Caine.

Seriously? Oh it's so good. Focuses on a bright 16 year old girl named Claire who goes to college [at 16. I said she was bright. xD] in a town called Morganville where fully half the town isn't what it seems. There's a complex vampire hierarchy and Claire gets herself embroiled in the middle of intrigue that has been building for centuries.

DO EET. YOU KNOW YOU WANNA.

Also, just in case it may have come across that way, please don't take this as any kind of insult. I just had a blowout with a friend yesterday because I suggested this series instead of Twilight and she automatically assumed I was insulting her intelligence for wanting to read Twilight. I'm not. I'm just giving a suggestion that WAY underrated. =D

ROFLS. I promise there's a real reason why I'm reading these terrible books! I mean, I don't really want to love them and hold them to the highest standard of literature. *giggles* I mean, I read LKH's Anita Blake series too.

And I don't take any offense. I promise. :D I love getting book suggestions.

Oh god Anita Blake? BWAHAHAAHAA! xD

Srsly though, thank you. That was the kind of response I had been expecting from her too, but sooo not what I got. And since I'm on the subject or recommendation, have you read Maximum Ride? Another young adult series, but this one's about mutant bird-kids.

No, I'm not joking. ;-)

I <3 the Anita Blake books. Seriously. So much pr0n. XD Also, all the secondary and tertiary characters are fun, even if the main one... leaves a hell of a lot to be desired.

They are cute books.

But yeah, don't get into the fandom. It's....crazy. Like scary crazy. Don't venture there.

I. Love. Your icon.

And I agree. Twilight fandom = don't trespass unless you're prepared to be brainwashed.

Thank you (if the compliment was intended for me, that is)

It's not even so much that it's brainwashing, but it's just scary to watch the girls (most of them younger than all of us) fight tooth and nail and keyboard about who is a better boyfriend for Bella. It's like the Ron/Hermione vs. Harry/Hermione war back in the HP fandom years ago, except somehow more stupid. Somehow.

I also avoided the midnight release of Breaking Dawn. Because in person...I don't even know....

(The compliment was for you. :D)

I think it's more stupid because while JKR left more room for speculation and actual arguments, it's kind of obvious in the Twilight books that no matter whether you like Jake or Edward more, Bella will end up with Edward. So...all the arguing is just really...fruitless.
