ravenpirate's novel. It has not been published. In fact, it is still in stages of heavy revision, and she's not entirely sure what she's going to do with it yet. This was written for her because I promised... almost a year ago now. (If you recognized the fandom and pairings, it just means you know what I'm talking about and your not special, or you're Megan, and you are.) Basically... this is a fanfiction for my friend.
"It's only a matter of time old man."
That was what Kaden had said the last time he had tried to kill Kiran. Kaden had lost of course (he always did), but Kiran had had to keep himself from taking the other's boy's eye just for that comment. What was bothering Kiran now was no longer the "old man" comment, but the nagging thought that perhaps the bothersome boy was right.
At some point Kiran would forget to watch his back, and Kaden would be there waiting. And Kiran knew that was a fight he might not win.
He scowled and put the thoughts from his head for the moment. He had a job to do.
#
Kiran stepped out of the house and the bloody rapier in his hand vanished. He licked some blood from his hand and then stopped walking, pausing mid-lick. He looked up.
And saw Kaden waiting for him.
Obviously the boy had hoped to take him unawares after a kill, or perhaps even a little tired. But no one ever fought him when he went to kill them. They weren't strong enough, and they knew it, and he knew it, and they knew he knew it. If they were awake when he came for them, they usually just went straight to begging for their lives.
So whatever Kaden had been hoping for had not been achieved, and Kiran could feel a bad mood coming on.
"I–"
"Have come to kill me, yes, I know. Let us start then. The sooner you lose, the sooner I can leave." Kiran smirked at the indignant and then the angry look on the boy's face. He held his hand out and his rapier appeared in his hand again, cleaned of the blood it had had on it only minutes ago.
Kaden glared at him and lifted his double-headed spear, stepping easily into a fighting stance. He should have known, from past experience, not to make the first move, but he was too angry now, and he wanted Kiran dead too badly. So with a snarl he darted forward, slicing at Kiran with the point of his spear.
Kiran was faster, or perhaps he was expecting that, or perhaps both, but by the time the spearhead was where Kiran had been Kiran was well out of the way. He'd had too many fights with Kaden now for him to enjoy it, so his face was set in an impatient scowl.
Kaden adjusted and turned to stab at him a second time, but left himself open for an instant. It was long enough for Kiran to step in and slash at him. Kaden's shirt opened beneath the white-haired man's rapier, as did his skin. kaden jumped back and looked down to see blood start to run from the cut.
The green-haired boy growled and ran at him again, but Kiran sidestepped him, opening a second cut on Kaden's back. If Kaden felt any pain, when he turned to face the older man again, the white-haired Guardian couldn't see it on his face. Kiran felt a moment of pride. He had, after all, taught Kaden much of what he knew. (A fact, Kiran reflected, the snake Guardian seemed to forget often.)
Kaden threw the spear at Kiran, who moved, but the spear vanished in the air and reappeared in the boy's hand instantly. He stabbed at where Kiran now stood. Kiran's rapier vanished as he moved aside quicker than thought, and grabbed the spear, jerking it out of the boy's hands and slamming his fist into Kaden's face in the same movement. The other Guardian, not expecting that, yelped first in surprise and then in pain. He dropped to one knee, and the older man backhanded him hard across the face, sending Kaden sprawling to the ground, a hand on his face.
Kiran moved to stand above him and dropped the spear near Kaden. He looked down at him, a sneer of disapproval and disgust on his face.
"You would be better if you still had two eyes," he said after a minute, and then stepped over the still prone figure and walked away.
#
As always Kaden's brother received him with open arms, offering sympathy and comfort, and usually healing to both physical and emotional wounds. Whatever his twin needed. The physical wounds healed easily enough, but it was the ones to his pride that took the longest to heal. This time, however, it was clear that Kaden was far from being soothed.
"Just tell me why you are so upset," Cade said from his seat on the bed, watching his brother pace.
"He acts like it is my fault that I only have one eye now. Like I wanted to be stared at and mocked." Kaden snatched up a wineglass and hurled it irritably at the wall where it shattered, crimson wine mixed with shards of glass sliding down the wall.
Cade eyed the broken glass for a moment, and then looked up at his brother. "So you are going after him again so soon?"
Kaden nodded with determination, sure that this time would be different, that this time he would kill him. He had already talked to Seyos who knew where Kiran was being sent next, and had told him.
"Do you want me to come?" Cade asked, half hoping that his brother would say yes. But the other green haired boy shook his head. He didn't want help with this. He wanted to watch Kiran's life drain away and know that he had been the one to take it away from him. "I want to help you. I would do anything to help you."
"No, stay here. Make Lady Ravaa and Lord Demras happy. Kill some humans for fun." He smirked as he thought about that, and then glanced at his brother. His eyes traveled over his body, exactly like his own. The only real difference in their look was their hair; Cade's was short while Kaden's was long and covered where his eye had been. Kaden moved to the bed, standing in front of Cade and reached out, trailing a hand over his twin's cheekbone and then to just under his left eye. Cade watched him, not moving away.
"Would you give it to me?" Kaden asked his twin, running his finger up to Cade's eyebrow and then down over his now closed eye. "If it could help me, would you give me your own eye?" His finger moved off the eyelid and Cade opened his eye again.
"Of course," he breathed, and as he said it he knew it was true. He didn't get the chance to say anything more as Kaden leaned forwards and pressed his lips to his twin's in a bruising kiss.
Cade surrendered to his brother’s lips, closing his eyes once again, and letting his brother push him back onto the bed. He felt his brother’s hands slid up his chest, caressing gently and then slide back down and find their way under his shirt. Kaden’s hands were cold, they were always cold as they slid over his skin, but the young man didn’t seem to mind or even notice.
Kaden broke the kiss after a long moment and looked down at his twin, who lay under him panting softly. They were nearly exact replicas of each other. They had been exactly identical years ago, before Kaden had grown his hair longer to cover the scar on his face and the spot where his eye had been.
Kaden pulled his brother up slightly and then tugged his shirt up and over his head, tossing it to the side and off the bed. He ran his hands over Cade’s muscled chest, and then down to the waistband of the pants his brother was wearing.
Cade pushed Kaden’s hands away, smiling almost teasingly, and his twin growled at him. But the growl subsided when Cade reached for his shirt and pulled it off the same way he’d done with Cade’s shirt. And as soon as the shirt was off, the one-eyed young man pushed him down on the bed again and then grabbed his wrists and pinned them above his head.
Cade’s breathing was coming faster now, and he could feel his brother’s arousal. He pushed his hips up against Kaden’s, who hissed softly in response and then shifted slightly, pinning Cade’s wrist with one hand so he could pull the prone young man’s pants off with the other. But instead of just pulling them off he ripped through the waistband with his claws. Cade knew than when his brother was done, his pants would be far past the point of being fixed.
The sound of ripping cloth briefly filled the silence of the room, and then stopped, to be replaced with the sound of heavy breathing. The one-eyed young man slipped out of his own pants and pressed against his brother, cold skin against cold skin. Cade moaned softly when his brother kissed his neck, and ran his tongue over the pale skin. The green-haired young man gasped when his brother bit down on his neck, hard enough to leave a mark, and growled softly. He obligingly wrapped his legs around his twin.
He cried out softly when Kaden entered him because he knew his brother would want to hear his voice, and he closed his eyes again. He moaned softly when his twin started to slowly thrust into him, and arched up off the bed, pressing up against Kaden. Kaden kept his wrists pinned to the bed, his claws creating cuts and drawing blood, not allowing Cade to wrap his arms around him.
They orgasmed together, as they always did, and only then did Kade let go of his brother’s wrists to let him twine his arms around his shoulders and cling to him. They lay entangled on their bed, neither moving a single muscle, until Kaden realized that Cade had fallen asleep. He looked down at him for a few minutes, and then ran his hand down his beloved brother’s face, and pulled the blankets over the both of them.
#
Kaden left early the next morning, before his twin was even awake. As soon as Kaden woke, he slid from the bed he shared with his brother, not waking the other green-haired man, and dressed silently. His wounds weren't fully healed from his last fight with Kiran, but he didn't care. He was going after the bastard now, and a little pain wasn't enough to stop him.
He slipped out of the room as soon as he was dressed and ready, closing the door behind him. He went quickly to the stables and saddled a horse with the same speed. He was riding out of the stables in a matter of minutes. He didn't see his twin watching him from their window as he rode away.
As Kaden vanished into the trees, Cade pulled the curtains closed and went back to bed.
#
Kiran wasn't exactly trying to hide. He was easy to track, mostly because there wasn't anyone who stood a chance of killing him, therefore there was no point in making his presence unknown. His task this time to was to kill the leader of a small village. The man wasn't the nicest of people, and had done some thing or other to piss someone or other off, and now it was Kiran's job to kill the bastard. Which he wasn't too happy about to begin with. He felt like an errand boy. Why was it his job to be sent around doing petty tasks? He scowled as he pushed the door to the man's house open. A servant screamed and ran out of his way.
The man would be upstairs he knew, and he started up the stairs, his rapier appearing in his hand as he walked. For a moment he toyed with the idea of simply snapping the man's neck, but then decided against it. Blood was so pretty. He stalked towards the the man's bedroom door once he got to the second floor. He paused when he heard the sound of metal slicing through bone and a wet thud, and then he bolted for the door and slammed it open.
Inside, he found Kaden waiting for him, blood dropping from one of the blades of his double-headed spear, and the headless body of the man Kiran had been sent to kill.
"You know," the white-haired man said, looking at the body on the floor. "That was supposed to be my job."
"Oh well," Kaden said, shrugging carelessly, in a relaxed manner that carefully hid his eagerness to kill Kiran.
"I was looking forward to relieving some tension," the older Guardian snapped, glaring at Kaden. The younger man didn't have time to formulate a response, before Kiran hurled a dagger at him, and he had to block it with his spear. In less time than it took to blink, Kiran had shoved him back and down to the floor, using the spear Kaden had brought up to protect himself, to keep him pinned to the floor.
"That... wasn't fair..." Kaden gasped out, as Kiran's elbow pressed into his neck.
"Fair?" The other man snorted, and then shook his head slightly. "Do you have any idea how much I want to kill you right now?" he whispered, leaning a little closer.
"As much as I want to kill you," Kaden guessed, glaring up at him, and he struggled for a moment, trying to get away. He wasn't successful, and it earned him a slap across his face. He fell still. "So what are you going to do?" he snapped. "If you kill me, you'll be giving up your own life. If you let me go, I'll just come after you again. So what're you going to do?"
The green-haired boy was defiant in a way that only someone who knew that ultimately they won could be. There was a smirk on his pretty little mouth that Kiran wanted to wipe away for good, and a glint in his eye that Kiran wanted to beat from him. He chose another option instead.
He pressed his lips to Kaden's, hard. Hard enough to bruise them. The boy, interestingly, recovered from the shock rather quicker than Kiran would have reckoned, and returned the kiss. Kiran bit down hard on Kaden's lip, drawing blood, and then pulled away.
At some point between the floor and the bed, Kaden's spear vanished. It was Kiran who got them onto the bed, mostly because Kaden was struggling against him still, but the older man was stronger, always had been and probably always would be, and he managed all the same. Kaden's shirt was ripped in the process, and Kiran had five scratches on his upper arm.
The older man didn't actually bother with getting all of their clothing off. He shoved the boy face down onto the bed with one hand and pulled at his pants with the other. He realized, with some detached part of his mind, that Kaden really was a good-looking young man, and his skin really was smooth and pale, and it felt nice under his fingers. He pulled Kaden's pants down around his knees, still holding the half heartedly struggling younger man down on the bed. Once Kaden's pants were out of the way, he started on his own, pulling them down as well.
It wasn't until he pushed into him that he realized that he was simply relieving tension in another way.
Kaden cried out, and clawed at the sheets on the bed, shredding them under his claws, but pushed back, pushing Kiran deeper into him. The white-haired man smiled almost grimly and moved into him harder, dragging his claws down the boy’s back, shredding the shirt like Kaden was shredding the sheets and creating five cuts. The young man choked back a sound of pain, and closed his eyes, continuing his half-hearted struggle to get away. But it was all for show now.
Kiran pushed into him harder and faster still, making Kaden writhe under him. He slid his hands to Kaden’s hips and grabbed them roughly, digging his claws into the skin and drawing blood. Neither Guardian seemed to notice.
Kaden came first, crying out Kiran’s name and clawing at the sheets again, shredding them still more, and then Kiran came, thrusting hard into the green-haired boy once more, and this time dragging all ten claws down the already bleeding back in front of him. And then both fell onto the bed, exhausted and panting, and then slipped into sleep.
#
Kaden woke the next day hurting in places he rather wished he wasn't, and lying in an empty bed. He pulled himself out of the bed and found his ripped clothing on the floor, and pulled it on slowly. He glanced at the corpse on the floor and then went to the door. He wanted to go home to his twin. He wanted his twin to heal him as he always did. And he wanted to kill Kiran still. And now he had another reason to do it.
