Ok, at this point, I'm only reading the books for two reasons. 1) To find out how Harry kills Voldemort ( because there are so many reasons it should be nearly impossible ) and 2) Because I have a strange obsessive compulsiveness that require me to, one I have started a series, finish it. But honestly, book 6 seemed... lame to me. I can't help but think that Harry is so two dementional. He has about four emotions; happy, angry, confused and brave. There is no sad, because he turns his sad into angry or confused. The characters that I like, however, are the ones that she's seemed to flesh out a little bit more. Like Snape. And Lupin. Other than that, there aren't people I like in the books.

And please don't get annoyed at me for having an opinion.

I will admit, however, that fanfiction has made Draco one of my favorite characters. So I am curious enough to read the next book just to find out what happens to him. Though, as some of you know, I have my theories!

And as a writer, let me say that while I would love to be fabulously rich like JKR, I hope I never get that popular. Liza pointed this out to me last night. If I were her, I would be worried that something I put in the last book would cause some crazy fan to try and murder me. >.< So props to her.

I truly agree with you. The sixth book really bored me. The only reason I continued was to find out who was the Half-Blood Prince and even then Rowling didn't make as big a deal out of it as it actually deserves. The death didn't make me cry at all, whereas I sobbed uncontrollably at the end of the fifth book. I also got bored halfway through when she tried to pair so many people together -- I just thought shippers will be screaming and get sodding ON with it, woman.

But yes, I also am scared of ever becoming as popular as her. Shippers scare me. They scare me a lot. But I also will be reading the seventh book just to find out what happens to my favorites -- Neville (who was only in the book for FIVE pages at the most...), Lupin, Snape and Draco.

This book was so boring. The first half took me four hours to read, mostly because at the same time I was IMing people. The second half I read in two hours because i just sat down to read it. The style of the writing is not particularly difficult to get through. ( Can I just say that the fact this book is shorter than the fifth is a let down? )

The death was not all that interesting, and the way they dealt with it didn't seem right. Why not make McGonagall Headmistress and move on? The obvious dilema Draco was having with killing Dumbledore was so not clear at all. At least... I think it was supposed to be presented as a moral dilema, and not simply a case of Draco is a flipping idiot. The romances, with the sole exception of Ron/Hermione (WHICH NEVER ACTUALLY HAPPENS) weren't actually believeable. They were shallow. I didn't actually believe that anyone was actually in love. (Though, I think the idea of Tonks/Lupin is cute, and I would love to see that developed more.)

And yes, shippers are scarry. I have this nightmare of like... writing a book and then in the sequel not getting two characters together and having some crazy fan come try to kill me. That would be so scary.

See, I have a hatred of Tonks and all the Order of the Phoenix folks, really. It seemed to me that Rowling got bored and said to herself, "Oh! I'll create all NEW types of magic!" and created all these new characters that rather annoyed me. Tonks was one of that group. You'd think that the fact that there were so many types of magic would've been mentioned in an earlier book...but that's just me. *laughs*

Yes, I agree, the relationships were flat and very unromantic. I used to like Ginny and I despised her in this book. Did you also think that the end with Harry breaking up with her was like a rip-off of the final scene in "Spiderman" at the graveyard? That's all I could think about.

I did sort of like Fleur/Bill, if only because Fleur always amused me and she was nice in the book and I had figured on them hooking up after the fourth book. However, the whole thing with Lavender/Ron, Ron lusting after Hermione, Hermione lusting after Ron, all really and completely bored me.

I was also really annoyed that Rowling didn't play more on Draco's moral dilemna. I like him, although I admit he's a twit. However, most of the exciting bits of the first few books were helped along by him being Harry's rival. However, I just know he'd be dead as a doornail if Snape wasn't around. I mean, during the second book? In a huge crowd he yelled "You'll be next, Mudbloods!" Yeah, suuuuureee, he'll make a WONDERFUL member of a /secret/ society. *grins* I'm also rather disappointed because I doubt we'll see much of Snape or Draco in the seventh book until the final battle. Seeing as they're the most interesting characters, the final book will probably be as dismal and boring as this one was. *shakes head*

Sorry bout the rants. *laughs sheepishly* None of my friends have read the 6th book, and while I usually ramble on about the latest book I've read to my best friend, she despises Harry Potter so I don't mention it except to grumble about Neville, which she tolerates. *grins* She's more of a "Christopher Rice" reader. So I haven't gotten to ramble/rant to anyone at all, and I read the book the day it came out.... ^^;;

So true! Totally agree with you. You are the FIRST person on my friends list (okay, maybe second, but first to post it) to actually say that the book was not too good. Everybody else was like "omfg!!! my favorite book of the series!!11 Its so much better!1!!11! I so cried like a baby when he died, I didn't see it coming!1!!!!11! AND THE PRINCE!!!! omfg! Totally didn't see that!!1!"

... die people x.x Everything was obvious and annoying and "omfg let's have a snog attack in the 14th chapter!"

x.x

Personally, I knew that Dumbledore would kick the bucket. Not only because I was tipped off, but because he had to die in this book or early in the next one. So I didn't cry. Also, Dumbledore was not a character I particularly liked all that much. It was not a big deal when he died. And can I just say that the whole thing with the Prince was so fricken obvious? She hinted at it so fucking strongly, that even if I hadn't been told (I'm a spoiler whore) I would have known. So not a surprise at all.

I hated the newest book so much. There are very few pairings that I'm actually okay with, and I hated how Ginny was such a Mary-Anne(You're such a WHORE). Uh, anyway. The relationships weren't even about love, they weren't even about lust, they were about pairings. It sucked. I hate romance, but I really hate bad romance, especially when it is the majority of a story. I hated Tonks/Lupin, 'cause that seemed to just undermine Sirius's death so much. I mean, I was fine having Tonks in love with Sirius, 'cause that was cute if het, and it gave some emotional depth to the story. Then it was like, oh btw, she doesn't really like him, she cares more about a hot guy than the death of a good friend. I mean, it could have worked if they had consoled each other, and ended up together, that might even have been cute. Granted, given Rowling, she'd fuck it up, but at least it would have been that sickening. I loved Sirius. Also, I laughed when Dumbledore died. That may have been 'cause I was really upset at the time and needed something like that to cheer me up, but it was very funnily written. I agree with the fact that Draco really came off as way more of a loser than he had in any of the other books. I mean, Draco is awesome. He had the Dark Mark and whatever, and she could have done a lot with him. Instead, nothing. Blaise also could have been really cool (fanfic - Draco/Blaise OTP shipper), but nothing. Snape I found absolutely amazing in this one, simply because he did kill Dumbledore. It's either, "I love this man so much he was the only on who ever beleived in me like a father 'cause mine sucked but I have to sacrifice him for the greater good," which is very cute, and fits his character portrayed thus far, or "The only man who ever beleived in me is at my mercy and now I shall be his ultimate betrayer and follow the one I truly beleive in while protecting my young charge," which I think is so much hotter, but I guess that's just me, please nobody make any Judas jokes, I thought of that the first time I wrote this, and just to deter you, yes I love Judas and am a Jesus/Judas shipper so there. Uh, rant much? Sorry. (Words for my OCD)

You read my Blaise/Draco fic, right?

Yeah, pretty much I was expecting more to come. And then by the time I read the fifth book, I was sort of like, "I can see this going downhill right now." And I was right. I wish I thought she would surprise me in the 7th book, but I just don't think she will. Which is sad, because it could have been so good.

But then, didn't Ursula K. LeGuin do a young wizard coming of age thing? I wonder if she pulls it off better. I should look into that.
