In which Sky considers all her projects, current and possible future.

• You know what's funny? Financial aid is both easier and way more complicated than it should be. (Why, yes, I am only just applying for financial aid. Don't look at me like that!) The FAFSA application was way easy this year, but the CSS Profile? Holy crap, what the hell was that. It took me like... an hour and a half. Clearly I need to win the lottery and pay off my school all in one sweep and never have to think about financial aid ever again.

[livejournal.com profile] klose got me thinking about something again that I hadn't thought about in a while. A new project. I'm not sure that I want to deal with it right now (particularly with the effort of running [livejournal.com profile] fantasybigbang) but now it's back on the back burner of my mind. (It was in a box in a closet for a while, I guess.) Still, now I am thinking about projects again, and that kind of nice.

• Speaking of [livejournal.com profile] fantasybigbang, I'm terrified that it won't go off well. Or that I will have to try to figure out a way to postpone it until after NaNoWriMo. It's already going to be running while I'm at school (though I shouldn't have to do too much work on it while I'm there) and I don't think I want to push it to the middle of a school year for anyone. It's mostly that there aren't that many artists. I should try to figure out a way to get more of those. Hmmm. We'll have to see.

• It's all rainy here, and overcast and so it seems like it's way later than just after 3pm. It's throwing me off. :<

• Finished with my current run of Tamora Pierce books. I finally got my hands on the library's copy of Holly Black's The White Cat and I just started it, and I am looking forward to it. And also the other neat things that I have from the library that I've never read before.

Eh, that's all there is for today, I think. I'm tiiiiired. And probably somewhat whiny. And I want to RP. XD

I still owe 1/5th of my SJC tuition and I graduated in 1997.

[identity profile] cerulean-sky.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
*gulp* Yeah, I'm going to owe a lot. Especially counting what I borrowed when I went to Eugene Lang. Still, SJC is awesome and if I have to give money to a school somewhere, this is definitely it.

[identity profile] imaginarycircus.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
I don't regret it at all. I paid almost my entire tuition on my own. I got no financial aid my sophomore year because my step dad refused to fill out the FAFSA and I had to have myself declared an independent.

That community sounds like a fun idea (I just checked it out to see what you were talking about), so I hope you can get a lot of interest in it. :)

And that Tamora Pierce thing reminds me- I've been meaning to buy the last Lioness book; for some reason that's the only Tortall book I'm lacking. Well, that and the Beka books, now that I think about it. I really should get Pierce's other series, too, since I've never read those, either.

If you don't mind not-so-perfect art (I'm not the best artist), I'll totally add my name. Also, I might be able to get my roommate to join, but she isn't on LJ -- is that a problem?

[identity profile] cerulean-sky.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
You should join! And write something! You know you wanna! Or maybe you wanna pimp it out? O:D

I still haven't read the Beka books at all. But I've read everything else (except Melting Stones, but I've got it on reserve at the library). But you should definitely read Tamora Pierce's Magic Circle books. They're really great.

[identity profile] cerulean-sky.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
Hm. Does she have a Deviantart account? Because that would help. You could sign her up, maybe. :D

[identity profile] masteroftrouble.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
She does~ I still have to ask her XD

[identity profile] merigreenleaf.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
lol! I am working on a fantasy story kind of thing, but I'm terrible at deadlines and I'm not sure how many words it'll end up being (although I'm at about 3400 words now, so I'd be more worried about the deadline)- that and I'm really self-conscious about my writing (I'm such a newbie at original fiction) and don't know if it's good enough...

I can definitely pimp it, though! Goodness knows that I know all sorts of artists, so maybe one of them would be interested in helping on the art side of things. Ooo, and one of my best friends is writing a fantasy story, so I can tell her about it, too. :)

For some reason the blurbs I read about the Beka books don't appeal to me as much as the rest of the series, so I haven't been overly keen to read them yet. Awesome- I'll check those books out! So the rest of what she writes is good, too?

[identity profile] merigreenleaf.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, I talked to that friend and she is definitely interested! She'll need to sign up for an lj first, though. Is there a limit to how long it can be? She thinks she might already be near 10,000 words.

And since she's my resident shoulder-devil and I go along with her crazy ideas, I think I might join in, too. Would it be the end of the world if I had to bale out, though? I never know how I'll be feeling and if I'm up to working on stuff, but I'm pretty sure I can reach that word count by the deadline. My writing muse is extremely wordy.

One more question- is it okay if it's something we're posting elsewhere? Both me and my friend are writing our stories on our writing blogs already.

[identity profile] cerulean-sky.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 05:09 am (UTC)(link)
I'm trilled that you and your friend are thinking of joining! And also that between you and I, we managed to make another LJ user. XD

There's no limit on the length, though something that the artist can read in a reasonable amount of time would be nice.

It's not the end of the world if you have to bail, no. Just do it before the artist claiming opens, so that an artist doesn't work on a piece of artwork for a story that doesn't end up being a part of the challenge in the end.

As for the posting elsewhere (and this is something I thought I'd covered in the FAQ but apparently forgot): we ask that it be a completely new piece that hasn't seen the light of day yet (other than you and your betas). It could, though, be something in the same universe as something else you're working on—the background story of a character who doesn't get a lot of face time, maybe. Using a started story is ok, but we ask that it not have been posted on a blog or LJ.

[identity profile] merigreenleaf.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 03:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah. That's probably not going to work for us, then. :( I don't know if Ruthie's planning on working on another long story right now (possibly, but I don't know- she's always writing something, but I'm not sure if her future ideas involve a story that long; I can ask), but I'm really not sure if I could do two- I have a hard enough time working on the one and don't think I can split that energy into two. I post it in chunks on that blog so my D&D group can read it, but it's not like it's something a lot of people have read (I think Ruthie and my fiancé are the only people who bother, honestly, and they give me advice on it. Even most of my D&D group just ignores it and it's about that world. Trust me, not a lot of people care that I'm writing this or have bothered to read it, even after I mention that I updated it. I just get ignored, which kinda pisses me off, but that's another can of worms, lol). That sucks that I can't use it because I keep it online for those two or so people to read. :(

In theory I could write about another character in the world (I was planning on doing that after I finished this story), but I don't think I can do two at the same time. I have a habit of not finishing something if I pick up something else, and I really want to finish this one before I forget all the things I had planned for it and move on to a new character. Darn it, and this was giving me inspiration to actually get it done in a timely manner instead of procrastinating.

[identity profile] merigreenleaf.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 06:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually, I just had a great idea for how to work around this. I'd been tossing a random story idea around in my head for a while (it was given to me by one of my customers, oddly enough) but wasn't sure how I could connect it to the world I'm writing about, but I think I figured out what to do- make the main character of that story be one of the characters from the story I'm currently writing; that way the new story won't take me away from what I'm currently writing because it'll be giving me character development and stuff based on what I already have. I don't know if I can get 10,000 words from this, but I have until the end of July to decide if I can do it, right?

[identity profile] anoyo.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 06:19 pm (UTC)(link)
We do need to talk about FBB. Uhm. Soon. Or something. OGOD. *flails*

[identity profile] cerulean-sky.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 06:24 pm (UTC)(link)
TALK TO ME, WOMAN.

[identity profile] cerulean-sky.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 06:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually, if you go ahead and sign up, you have until Sept. 30, basically. That's when the rough drafts are due, so by then you'd have a good idea of whether or not you'd be able to make the final deadline. :D

[identity profile] merigreenleaf.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 06:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Even better! :D I'll head over there now and sign up. I'm so so glad I had this idea because I really wanted to join in! Yay!

[identity profile] cerulean-sky.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 07:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay! I'm so glad you're joining up! *cheers*

[identity profile] merigreenleaf.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 07:24 pm (UTC)(link)
:D I'm posting about it to my blogger blog now and will spread word on DeviantArt and my livejournals and stuff, too.

[identity profile] cerulean-sky.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 07:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay! Thanks for helping me get the word out. I was considering how I would post something on DeviantArt, but I don't think there's a really good way for me to do it. D: But thank you!

[identity profile] anoyo.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 07:42 pm (UTC)(link)
HEH. WELL, I AM DRIVING ACROSS THE STATE TO VISIT A FRIEND TOMORROW. I KNOW. I'M A HUGE AMOUNT OF HELP. YEAH.

[identity profile] merigreenleaf.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 07:56 pm (UTC)(link)
You're welcome! :D I put it in my journal on DA in the hopes that someone will see it there, but I can't get images to work in it today for some reason, so the banner won't show up. :(

[identity profile] cerulean-sky.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 08:49 pm (UTC)(link)
YOU ARE SO LAME. TEXT ME IF YOU NEED TO.

[identity profile] cerulean-sky.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 08:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Huh. I know absolutely nothing about DA journals, so I fear I will be zero help. If you figure it out/it decides to show up on it's own, please make a note about the artist and all that. (That's another reason I am leery of posting on DA. I don't want to piss anyone off with those banners, even though I checked the artists rules and all that.)

[identity profile] merigreenleaf.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 09:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I guess it's a good thing that I can't get the banner to work, then, huh? ;) If it ever shows up, I'll credit the artist, but right now it's trying to just be a text link.

[identity profile] anoyo.livejournal.com 2010-06-30 09:34 am (UTC)(link)
I KNOW RIGHT. EPIC FAAAAAAAIL.
