In which Sky is curious.

Here's a somewhat odd question:

If one buys an "unlocked" cell phone from, like, Amazon, can one go to their service provider and tell them, "Here, put my number on this phone please?"

Verizon is a CDMA technology which does not use SIM cards. I am unaware of any unlocked phones which aren't based on SIM Cards. I am also relatively certain that VZ will not activate any device that does not bear their logo. It's the price you pay for their generally good-superior coverage.

not necessarily, i know a few people in the past year or so who have had their phones break or get stolen and they bought one off of eBay and had it activated. you just have to ask them and be firm.
