In which Sky is curious.

Here's a somewhat odd question:

If one buys an "unlocked" cell phone from, like, Amazon, can one go to their service provider and tell them, "Here, put my number on this phone please?"

Alas that I am on Verizon, and thus my Razr doesn't have a card in it. (Stupid Verizon.) But I kind of hate my phone. So I was just thinking.

Actually, I hate my service too. For everything except coverage. I get service EVERYWHERE, but I don't get anything cool on my phone or cool ringtones or anything. Bah.

now that i think of it, i don't think mine has the card either, i think I just called em up. But I've got Cingular/AT&T. It gets service in A LOT of areas, MOSTLY, but there are random areas where we get no service going to and from work and we're like WTF?

Yeah, my boyfriend has AT&T and he doesn't get service in our room, and only spotty service in the rest of the apartment. My mom had to get a whole other phone on our Verizon plan because her iPhone (which is AT&T) doesn't get service in Santa Fe (but does in New York).

I've thought about switching, though. My two best friends have AT&T and don't have any complaints.

cingular/att is GSM which has a SIM card and has for no fewer than 8 years. Your phone has a card, i promise.
