Been there, love, and I can say that feel your pain (that sounds so stupid, but I gather you understand).

Perhaps, your appreciation for him has not really waned, but he has simply stepped aside for another "muse" that will take his place for a time. Doesn't mean he's "gone", if you will, but just giving another a chance to inspire you.

Being a writer myself, I have countless Muses, three of which are constants, and have been for almost three years. Sometimes, one will overshine the others, but it all evens itself out.
